Well…. not really, but it wasn’t the same Byron Bay or Gold Coast I’ve visited before as it was overcast and a little rainy. We wanted to snorkel on Julian Rocks, known for nurse sharks, cuttlefish, turtles and manta rays elegantly cruising by. It wasn’t possible this time probably due to the lovely cyclone Debbie, that has just been upgraded to a category 5 in Queensland …. oh dear! But it also wasn’t possible due to the swell in the ocean which, if it comes from the deep sea up to a reef, will cause big barrelling waves… not safe.
Anyway, our visit to Byron wasn’t dampened ( excuse the pun) due to the fun, hippie, surf atmosphere. There are so many cool cafes and vintage, quirky shops.
There is also an amazing flea market one Sunday a month in nearby Bohemian town Bangalow, which we got to spend time at. I could’ve bought loads there, from organic food, soaps, silk and handmade clothing. I bought the best basket bag ever … I’m in love! Their website is linked here.
Aussie actress, Isabel Lucas has purchased a house in Byron Bay and I can see why due to her style. She is stunning, my favourite modern day boho celebrity and I also love her constant fight for animal rights. Just look below at her cute teddybear coat and 60s vintage mini dress 💜.
We also visited The Farm, a working farm and a micro-business with the Motto ‘Grow Feed Educate’. I sampled the chai tea and chatted to the pigs !
On Friday, we moved on to stay with my friend, who has moved to the Gold Coast. Yesterday brought body boarding and an AFL game! The atmosphere is always great at these games. It was Brisbane Lions vs. Gold Coast Suns…. Brisbane won 🏉🦁
Before I go I wanted to say I just downloaded Fearne Cotton‘s new book ‘Happy’. So far it’s very interesting, how to find joy in every day and let go of perfect. She gives tips on how to get balance and remember self preservation! Check it out here!
See you further up the east coast !!
